The indoor environmental laboratory is a research environment designed to enable the experimental testing of indoor environmental factors under controlled conditions. The laboratory’s pilot phase is associated with the Building Health Center of Expertise and aims to generate new and useful knowledge about the functioning of an indoor environment laboratory for both research and educational purposes through collaboration between the university, companies, and other stakeholders.
The indoor environmental laboratory is located in Oulu, in the Alppila district, and is approximately 100 m² in size. It includes a room-scale environmental chamber, office and meeting spaces, other indoor environment laboratory equipment, and field research instruments.

The laboratory equipment allows for the observation and measurement of various indoor air factors, such as microbes, fine particles, and gases like carbon dioxide. It also enables the demonstration of other indoor environmental factors for educational purposes, such as lighting, acoustics, and thermal comfort.
The research environment also includes equipment and expert services for conducting field studies to meet the needs of various stakeholders.
